Petrified Wood 2

This series was created from a photo of a stump of petrified wood. This is actually the second series that I did from that same stump, but in this one I kept the colors more simplified and truer to the tones in the wood. The pareidolia in these is pretty extensive and that is also where some of the titles of the pieces came from, my own shapes that I saw in these random textures. You can see other variations that I’ve created from a single image in the variations tab on my site.

Whale Bone

This series began as a photo of a carved whale bone in the Carnegie Museum of Natural History when I was visiting Pittsburgh. I loved the colors and textures in the photo and thought it would make for an interesting series of graphic, yet complex images.

Pegasus | Industrial Star

Believe it or not, this image started as a photo of the vintage and iconic Pegasus sign for Mobil gas stations. I appreciated the industrial nature of these signs that I remember growing up with all over. I decided to explore using this as a base for a piece and see where I could take that image through digital manipulation where it would have an industrial bent, but have no connection visually to that original image. This was the result.

Live Oak Sprig | Gem Star

There was a sprig of leaves that fell off of the Live Oak tree and I liked the shadows it made on the concrete driveway. I decided to take a photo and use it as the base for some digital experiments. I was pleased with the way this particular one turned out as it was so different from a color perspective of any other piece I’d worked on. It was subtle, yet magical in some way. It reminded me of a childlike world where pale colored gems were common, but there was a sophistication of sorts as well.

Immaculata | Renaissance Refinery

This piece was created from a photo of a bearded daylily called Immaculata. It was heavily filtered and digitally manipulated to arrive at this very complex final image. This image is also one of the images that I was working on for use in a tiled wallpaper that could be printed and used in a room through multiple custom wallpaper sites. The first of a new section of wallpapers on my site. Shown in a room mockup below the original tile.

Lillian's White Lies | Garden Goddess

Lillian's White Lies is one of my favorite white daylilies in our Moon Garden. The form of the flower has an elegance to it that presents as regal and is somewhat otherworldly. This particular photo was taken during a sun break on a cloudy day, which gave it a unique presence. Every time I see this bloom I always think of the word Goddess for some reason, likely because of it's charms that I mention, hence the title of the piece.
