Personal Design Presentation

My Role: Designer & Presenter

Project: Create a presentation to be used to introduce me to new teams or organizations.

Project Description

When I joined PayPal, I was asked to provide the teams with a presentation of my work, my past experience, and my views on design and team management, as well as some personal tidbits. I am not a huge fan of PowerPoint presentations as I feel that they are impersonal and much of the content is forgotten when people get bored. So I decided to do a more simplified presentation and limited each slide to a single word and image. There were 28 images in all and the presentation took slightly under an hour. This approach allowed me to expand on certain areas.

My presentation was shared globally and the reaction was a pleasant surprise. I received many thank you notes and kudos for doing something different and for being transparent about my feelings towards design, and for sharing things on a much more personal level. I didn’t know then how my presentation would be received, but I still heard mention of it well after a year from when I first presented it, so it must have struck a chord with people and that was what I hoped to achieve.
