My Role: VXD Director/Consultant
Project Goal: Reinvent and simplify the PayPal experience, keeping in mind adaptation to various form factors, responsive design requirements, localization needs, accessibility and the new global brand guidelines.
Project Description
Representative of the redesign effort is the recently launched PayPal homepage. This shows the results of one of my successful collaborations with PayPal’s Marketing Team. This project included all external, pre-login pages and focused on marketing to the consumer and to businesses.
This redesign was a large-scale undertaking and was built on a new web technology platform. It also included new visual identity, illustration and branding and a complete and thorough re-articulation of the information architecture and the interaction system. I acted as a consultant, on a weekly basis, providing visual and UX direction to the team.
To give some examples as to how dramatic this redesign was for PayPal in terms of simplifying the experience, the site went from 70+ links in the consumer navigation down to seven and from literally thousands of different external pages globally, to twenty templated pages. The results of this redesign showed a significant increase in both new customer sign-up and send money transactions and there was an unprecedented lift in brand measures. The redesign is a light and refreshing improvement for users and continues to perform extremely well.
