Amazon Softlines Refresh, Kerry Simmons influence

My Role: WW Design Manager

Project Goal: Elevate the fashion experience on the non-clothing softlines categories of shoes, accessories, jewelry and watches in a scalable and efficient way.

Project Description

With the success of the Amazon Clothing & Accessories re-launch, the other fashion categories needed some attention as well. We addressed this need with a simple refresh of category homepages. One of my most talented designers, Kerry Simmons, was the design lead for the softline categories. Through careful attention to typography, implementation of the new brand, and understanding of the need for scalability, she developed templates that could be easily used by the global design team.

As shown on the left, the softline homepages were inconsistent, using different layouts and page widgets. We reformatted the pages to two-columns and adopted a single template with an enlarged top center promotional image, an area for category icon images, followed by an area for brand logos. The refreshed pages are shown to the right.

“Skottie was my design mentor when I started at Amazon several years ago, and later became my manager on the Retail Design Team. My experience working with Skottie has always been very rewarding. His multi-dimensional perspective, combined with a high degree of ingenuity and creative integrity, is an inspiration. These qualities alone would make Skottie a great asset to any team, group, or company. To top it off, Skottie's unique personality and wacky sense of humor make him a complete blast to be around. What more can I say? I'm a Skottie fan!”
