REFLECTIONS & PAREIDOLIA
by Skottie O'Mahony
Welcome to SkotoArt. I am a digital artist who is drawn to texture, pattern and nature in particular. I’ve been a gardener all of my life and have always had a deep appreciation for art, photography, architecture and landscape design. Most of my work starts with a photo I’ve taken, then I work to take that image to a very different place from where it initially started. I push colors, add layers and manipulate the photo to make it something quite different, more graphic, unexpected, oftentimes abstract. My work tends to lend itself to pareidolia, which makes it that much more personal to those viewing my work.
What is pareidolia? It's the human ability to see shapes or make pictures out of randomness. Think of the Rorschach inkblot test or seeing a man in the moon. Many people see all kinds of things in my work and I love hearing what they see. Art is personal and we all view things differently, so have fun looking deeper into my work. What do you see?
